Emotional Tribute: MP Owen Baya Recalls Mother’s Final Days and Last Family Moments

Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Baya has opened up about the deeply personal and emotional final moments he shared with his mother, Dorothy Baya Mweri, before her passing late last year.

In a heartfelt message shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the legislator recounted a poignant family meeting held on November 21, 2025.

According to Baya, his mother had summoned him alongside his siblings—his brother Bishop Mwaro and sister Charity Mapenzi—for what would become a significant and emotional conversation.

During the meeting, Mama Dorothy reportedly spoke candidly about a strong inner conviction that her time on earth was coming to an end.

She described hearing a persistent voice calling her “to another land,” a message she said she could not ignore.

Her words left the family stunned, as she calmly expressed readiness to depart, stating that she had fulfilled her purpose in life and entrusted the rest to God.

Baya recalled how his mother reflected on raising a family grounded in strong Christian values, expressing gratitude for her children and the life she had lived.

Though shaken by her remarks, the family tried to reassure her, but she remained firm in her belief that her time was near.

Concerned that she might not make it to the Christmas holidays, Baya organized a special family dinner just two days later, on November 23, 2025.

The gathering brought together close family members in a moment of unity, celebration, and quiet reflection. They shared a meal, cut a cake, and created memories that would soon become treasured moments.

Despite their hopes and prayers, Mama Dorothy’s health deteriorated weeks later. On December 22, 2025, just days before Christmas, she suffered an acute medical episode and was rushed to the hospital, where she was placed on life support. The situation left the family anxious, especially after their prayers for more time together.

Baya emotionally recounted praying for one more day with his mother on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, the family gathered, sang carols, and gave thanks. In what he described as a moment of divine grace, she was discharged later that day, allowing them to share one last Christmas together.

Her passing shortly afterward marked the end of a life Baya described as faithful, loving, and deeply impactful.
