Ruto, Gachagua Set for First Public Meeting Since Impeachment at Kiaraho Requiem Mass

President William Ruto and his former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua are expected to make their first public appearance together since Gachagua’s impeachment, during the requiem mass of the late David Kiaraho in Nyandarua County on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The anticipated meeting has already sparked nationwide interest, coming months after a dramatic political fallout that led to Gachagua’s removal from office.

Since then, the two leaders have largely avoided sharing public platforms, fueling speculation about deepening divisions within the ruling administration.

While the event is primarily meant to honour the life and legacy of Kiaraho, a respected Ol Kalou MP, political observers believe the presence of both Ruto and Gachagua will inevitably shift attention toward their relationship.

The requiem mass, expected to draw leaders from across the political divide, will serve as a rare moment where the former allies occupy the same space once again.

Analysts note that every detail—from their arrival, seating arrangement, and body language to any remarks made—will be closely monitored for clues about the state of their ties.

For many Kenyans, the encounter could signal whether there is room for reconciliation or if the rift remains firmly intact.

Kiaraho’s death has united leaders in mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the country recognizing his contribution to leadership and development in Nyandarua and beyond.

His influence in local and national politics is expected to be reflected in the high-profile attendance at the ceremony.

The meeting between Ruto and Gachagua comes at a critical time when Kenya’s political landscape continues to shift, with new alliances forming and old ones being tested.

As succession politics quietly take shape, the dynamics between key figures in government remain under scrutiny.
