DCI Officers’ Attempt to Access Raphael Tuju in ICU Sparks Tension at Karen Hospital

Tension unfolded at Karen Hospital on Tuesday morning after officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) reportedly attempted to gain access to former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju while he was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to information shared by one of Tuju’s aides, the officers arrived at the facility at around 8:20 a.m., insisting on seeing and speaking with the ailing politician.

The request was, however, declined by hospital management, who cited Tuju’s critical condition and the need to prioritize urgent medical care.

In response to the situation, the hospital is said to have tightened security measures around the ICU, restricting entry and reportedly locking access doors to prevent any unauthorized interference with ongoing treatment procedures.

Medical staff maintained that any engagement with the patient would require strict adherence to clinical protocols.

The incident has since raised alarm among Tuju’s allies and sections of the opposition, who have questioned the timing and manner of the DCI’s actions.

Some have termed the move as irregular, arguing that approaching a patient in critical condition could breach both medical ethics and legal standards.

Sources familiar with Tuju’s condition indicate that he remains under close medical supervision, making any form of questioning or official interaction inappropriate at this stage.

Legal analysts note that while investigative bodies have a constitutional mandate to pursue information, such authority must be exercised within the boundaries of the law.

They caution that attempting to access a patient without medical clearance could raise serious ethical concerns and potentially violate the individual’s rights to privacy and proper healthcare.

Hospitals, they add, are bound by strict confidentiality rules that prioritize patient welfare above all else.

Meanwhile, Tuju’s aide has called for the urgent intervention of legal representatives and human rights defenders, citing fears of a possible escalation.

The appeal underscores growing anxiety among his supporters, some of whom suspect the incident may carry broader political implications.

The DCI had not issued an official statement by the time of publication, leaving unanswered questions about the intent and urgency of the visit.
