“Watu Wa Mt Kenya, Nyinyi Ni Bure,” Kanchory Explodes After UDA Sweeps By-Elections

Former Azimio chief agent Saitabao Ole Kanchory has sparked a heated political debate after launching a scathing attack on Mt Kenya voters following the latest by-election results that saw the ruling party record sweeping victories.

In a fiery message posted on social media on February 27, Kanchory criticized residents of the region for continuing to support President William Ruto despite ongoing economic concerns and rising political tensions across the country.

“Watu wa Mt Kenya, nyinyi ni bure,” Kanchory wrote, a statement that quickly spread online and triggered strong reactions from both supporters and critics.

Many users flooded the comment sections with responses, turning the post into a trending political discussion within hours.

The remarks came shortly after the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) secured victories in all four by-elections conducted on February 26 across several counties, reinforcing the party’s growing political influence in key regions.

In Isiolo South Constituency, UDA candidate Mohamed Tubi clinched the parliamentary seat with a commanding lead over his closest rivals.

Analysts say the win demonstrated the party’s ability to maintain a strong presence even in competitive areas.

Meanwhile, in Embu County, UDA continued its dominance in ward-level contests within Mbeere North. Duncan Muratia won the Evurore Ward seat after garnering a significant number of votes, while Peterson Njeru secured victory in Muminji Ward, further consolidating the party’s support in parts of the Mt Kenya region.

UDA also made a notable breakthrough in Kakamega County, a region traditionally associated with opposition politics.

Elphas Shalakha emerged the winner in the West Kabras Ward by-election, a result that political observers say highlights the party’s expanding national reach.

During his online outburst, Kanchory also appeared to take aim at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, questioning earlier political assurances made to voters and suggesting that tensions could be building within political camps as the country moves closer to the next general election.

The strong language used in his message has further intensified the political conversation surrounding Mt Kenya’s voting patterns and the shifting balance of power in the country.

Supporters of the ruling party defended the region’s choices, while critics argued that the remarks were unnecessary and divisive.

Political analysts say the by-election results have boosted UDA’s confidence and could influence early strategies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

However, they also note that the opposition is likely to regroup and reassess its approach in regions where support appears to be shifting.
