Police have launched investigations after a human skeleton was discovered dumped in a swamp at Nyakumu area within Rurii Dam, Kikuyu sub-county, Kiambu County.

According to police, residents who spotted the remains alerted officers, who later visited the scene and secured the area.

Preliminary findings indicate the victim may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped in the swamp. The identity of the deceased and the motive behind the killing remain unknown.

The skeletal remains were removed from the scene and taken to a mortuary, where they will undergo identification, postmortem examination and further forensic procedures.

In a separate incident in Kiamachimbi area, Mathira, Nyeri County, the body of a woman was found floating in Karogoto River on January 19.

Police said the body was half-naked and had a deep cut near the right eye when it was discovered by a local farmer.

The attackers assaulted Masongele as his female colleague attempted to flee. She told police that three more men joined the attack, restrained her, and locked her in a room before beating Masongele to death.

Nothing was stolen from the site, and the motive of the attack remains unclear. Masongele sustained serious injuries to the neck, police said. His body was taken to the mortuary as detectives continue investigations.
