MP Oscar Sudi Gifts Houses to Late Staffer’s Mother and Longtime Employee

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has gifted two three-bedroom houses to the mother of his late staff member and to a longtime employee, in what he described as a fulfilment of promises made out of compassion, gratitude, and loyalty.

Speaking on Friday, December 26, during the handover ceremony in Kapseret, the lawmaker said the decision was deeply personal and driven by experiences that touched him emotionally over the years.

One of the beneficiaries is Peninah Manyara, popularly known as Mama Mungai, whose son worked as an IT professional in one of Sudi’s businesses in Eldoret before his death earlier this year.

According to the MP, the young man was the breadwinner of his family, and his sudden passing left his mother devastated and uncertain about the future.

Sudi recounted attending the burial of his staff member in February, where he witnessed the pain and grief of a mother who had lost her only source of support.

“Mama Mungai’s pain is real. Losing a child is like losing a part of yourself. The pain of losing a son who was the breadwinner is unbearable, and it is a wound that does not heal easily,” Sudi said.

He explained that the emotional encounter compelled him to make a promise at the burial to secure the family’s future by providing land and building them a permanent home.

“During the burial, I promised her that I would buy land and build a house for her and her children. Ten months later, today, I have fulfilled that promise,” he added.

The MP confirmed that the family will relocate from Langas to Lemook in Kapseret, where the newly constructed three-bedroom house is located.

“She will now be my neighbour here in Kapseret,” Sudi said, adding that the move would offer the family stability and dignity after months of hardship.

The second beneficiary, Hermstone Makam, has worked with Sudi for over 14 years. The MP narrated how their relationship began in Nairobi in 2011 when Makam approached him on Riara Road seeking casual work.

“He was working at a construction site and volunteered to wash my car. I noticed he was hardworking and honest, and that is how our journey began,” Sudi recalled.

After observing his dedication over time, Sudi said he offered Makam an opportunity to work with him and later facilitated his relocation to Eldoret when he moved to Kapseret.

At the time, the area was largely undeveloped and lacked basic infrastructure such as electricity. Makam was tasked with taking care of the compound as Sudi gradually built his home.

“He patiently worked in a very remote place, doing chores like gardening, planting flowers, and maintaining the compound as I built my house. He stayed through it all,” Sudi said.

The MP explained that Makam’s loyalty, trustworthiness, and resilience motivated him to honour a promise he made years ago to help the employee own a home of his own.

“He has stood by me for 14 years and transformed the place where we lived. I promised him that one day I would help him have his own home, and today I have fulfilled that promise by gifting him a three-bedroom house,” Sudi said.

The gesture comes months after Sudi revealed that he and his associates had raised Ksh45 million to purchase essential goods for distribution across Kapseret Constituency. He emphasized that the funds were privately mobilised and did not involve public resources.

“My friends and I raised the money ourselves. Not even a single shilling came from the government,” he clarified.

Sudi credited his ability to mobilise resources and build networks as key to his continued empowerment and leadership.

“As a leader, you must have networks. That is why I always tell people to elect leaders who can mobilise support,” he said.
