“Ruto Was Already in Church at 4AM” Kaluma Mocks Gachagua, Kalonzo and Matiang’i as ‘Sleeping Rivals'

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has ignited fresh political debate after praising President William Ruto for his early morning dedication while taking a swipe at opposition leaders he described as “lazy” ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kaluma claimed that President Ruto had already woken up by 4.00 am to attend church, thank God for the past week and pray for a better week for Kenya, while his political rivals were still asleep.

The outspoken ODM legislator singled out former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, claiming they were “still in bed snoring” as Ruto continued to work hard and connect with Kenyans.

Kaluma questioned how the opposition leaders expect to compete with the Head of State in the next election if they cannot match his discipline, energy and commitment.

According to the MP, Ruto’s daily routine and aggressive political engagement give him a major advantage over rivals already positioning themselves for the 2027 presidential race.

His remarks come at a time when political campaigns and alliances are slowly beginning to take shape across the country, with both government and opposition figures intensifying their public appearances and political messaging.

Supporters of President Ruto praised Kaluma’s comments, arguing that the president’s work ethic and constant interaction with wananchi continue to strengthen his popularity.

However, critics accused the MP of using exaggerated political attacks to provoke the opposition and distract from pressing national issues such as the economy and cost of living.

The latest comments have once again highlighted the growing political tension as Kenya slowly heads toward another highly competitive election season, with leaders increasingly trading sharp words in public while trying to win support across different regions of the country.
