"People Must Resist" Paul Muite Breaks Silence With Warning Message Over This Move By Ruto’s Gov't

Senior Counsel Paul Muite has issued a strong call to action against proposed changes to land ownership laws in Kenya.

In a recent statement, Muite urged citizens to resist efforts to convert freehold land into leasehold arrangements and the imposition of what he described as oppressive taxes on property.

According to Muite, the objective behind these measures is to make it easier for the government to auction land when owners fail to pay the new taxes.

He warned that this approach could lead to widespread dispossession of citizens from their ancestral and hard-earned properties, ultimately turning them into labourers for a new system.

The veteran lawyer described the current administration as advancing a dangerous agenda that threatens the fundamental rights of Kenyans to own land securely.

He drew historical parallels to colonial times when land was taken from local communities, arguing that the new proposals mirror those oppressive practices under a different name.

Muite emphasized that freehold ownership represents the highest form of property rights and should be protected at all costs.

He called on the public, particularly landowners and future generations, to stand firm against what he termed a criminal regime seeking to undermine constitutional protections.

The statement has sparked intense discussions online and among legal experts. As debates over land reforms continue, many observers are watching closely to see how the government responds to these concerns.

With elections approaching, land issues remain highly sensitive and could shape public opinion significantly in the coming months.

Analysts note that secure land tenure is critical for economic stability and investor confidence in Kenya.

Muite's intervention adds a powerful voice to the ongoing conversation about balancing development goals with the protection of individual property rights.
