Mt Kenya Political Storm Deepens As Wamuchomba Warns Gachagua Power In The Mountain Can Vanish

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has launched a fresh attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The outspoken lawmaker warned that Mt Kenya politics changes quickly and leaders who rely on hype may face a rude awakening. She pointed to the Mbeere North by election as proof that voter loyalty can shift overnight.

Wamuchomba delivered the message through a strongly worded post shared on X on April 17 2026. In the post she told politicians she called popular to read the signs early.

According to her the mountain can praise a leader today then abandon the same leader tomorrow.

She aimed most of her criticism at Gachagua who she often refers to as Wamunyoro. The MP said political signals from the region are already clear for those willing to observe carefully.

She argued that emotions and loud rallies will not determine the final decision of Mt Kenya voters.

Wamuchomba also referred to events that followed the tense Mbeere North by election held in November 2025.

She claimed some Mau Mau elders who had earlier cursed President William Ruto and her have now started visiting the Deputy President residence only days after the vote.

She further said the Wakurinu religious group recently visited State House in large numbers. According to her the visit signaled a quiet shift away from Gachagua allies in Muranga.

She added that the AIPCA church in Meru has also softened its tone after weeks of criticism.

The Mbeere North race itself turned into a fierce contest between allies of President Ruto and supporters of Gachagua.

The seat fell vacant after the death of the sitting MP. Government backed candidate Leonard Wa Muthende won with 15802 votes against Newton Kariuki who received 15308.

Although the margin was small the result carried strong political meaning across the region. Analysts said the outcome challenged claims that Gachagua still commands firm control of Mt Kenya voters. For Wamuchomba the message from that contest is simple leaders must watch the ground carefully.

The MP who once stood firmly beside Gachagua switched sides in January 2026 and joined President Ruto camp.

Her decision angered some Kikuyu elders who even declared public curses against her. Now she insists development interests and practical alliances will guide the mountain when Kenyans vote in 2027.

She believes the region will reward leaders who deliver results rather than those who create constant noise.
