The vehicle was reportedly part of a convoy heading to the region when the incident occurred at the Kona Mbaya trading centre on Friday morning.
According to videos shared online, the truck had been mobilising supporters for the upcoming rally organised by leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Clips posted by Edwin Sifuna show tense moments inside the vehicle shortly before the attack. In the video, the turnboy could be heard chanting movement slogans as the convoy moved along the road.

The turnboy quickly moved away from the exposed side and bent down toward the floor of the truck to shield himself from further impact. Loud voices and confusion could be heard in the background as those inside reacted to the incident.
Despite the chaos, no casualties were reported following the stoning. However, the vehicle sustained damage, including a broken windshield captured in images circulating on social media.
Responding to the incident, Senator Sifuna maintained that the faction, which includes several prominent leaders, would still proceed with plans to hold the rally in Kakamega as scheduled. He noted that preparations for the event had already been communicated to the relevant authorities.
According to Sifuna, he had formally notified security agencies about the rally. He explained that he wrote to the Kakamega OCPD and also shared a notice with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen via WhatsApp informing him of the planned gathering.
Sifuna further stated that he circulated the same notice within the Senate WhatsApp group, where Murkomen is reportedly still a member as a former senator.

The senator argued that this ensured the authorities were aware of the planned rally and could not claim otherwise.
The remarks come shortly after Murkomen previously claimed he had not been informed about a rally held in Kitengela that ended in chaos after police intervened. That earlier incident reportedly resulted in two fatalities and left dozens of people injured.
Murkomen had also accused opposition leaders of organising rallies on market days to attract crowds and alleged that some individuals causing unrest had been transported from Machakos County.
