Anapenda Pesa: Winnie Odinga Hints At Greed Amid ODM Party Wrangles With Uncle Oburu Odinga

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga has shared a cryptic Bible verse on social media as tensions continue to simmer within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Winnie’s post comes at a time when internal divisions in the party have deepened following leadership changes that occurred after the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga. On October 15, 2025, Oburu Oginga assumed party leadership, a move that appears to have intensified factional differences within the outfit.

Two camps have since emerged. One faction, associated with Oburu and leaders allied to a broad-based political arrangement, has supported cooperation with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in backing President William Ruto’s administration.

The opposing camp, led by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, has rejected the cooperation, insisting that ODM should remain firmly in opposition as it prepares for the next General Election.

Winnie has publicly aligned herself with the faction opposing collaboration with President Ruto’s government.

She recently attended a press conference hosted by Sifuna, where he addressed what he termed as his unlawful removal from the secretary-general position by the Oburu-led wing.

Amid the ongoing political storm, Winnie took to Facebook and shared a photo of a scripture from 1 Timothy 6:10, which cautions against greed and the love of money.

The verse reads: “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Although she did not directly reference the ODM wrangles, the timing of the post has sparked speculation among observers and party supporters.

Many interpreted the scripture as a subtle message directed at individuals within the party amid accusations and counter-accusations over political alignment and interests.
Pressure from Oburu’s allies

Winnie’s stance has drawn reactions from leaders allied to her uncle. Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang’ publicly urged her to reconsider her support for Sifuna and instead rally behind Oburu, framing it as safeguarding the political legacy left behind by Raila.

In an emotional appeal, Kajwang’ described Winnie as “our child” and pleaded with her to “wake up,” warning against what he termed as misleading influences from unnamed individuals within the party.

Despite the calls, Winnie has maintained her silence beyond the scripture post, choosing not to directly address her critics or clarify her position further.
