Opinion: Who is Likely to Win Kikuyu Parliamentary Seat in the Upcoming General Election

Kikuyu is one of the 12 constituencies in Kiambu county. The current MP is the Majority Leader of the National Assembly Hon. Kimani Ichung'wah.

The legislator is serving his third term since he was first elected in 2013 and retained the seat in 2017 and 2022 General Elections.

As we head to the next General Election, the Kikuyu parliamentary seat has attracted several aspirants.

The three front runners are the incumbent Kimani Ichung'wah who is seeking fourth term, Stephen Kigathi and Owen Ndung'u Wanjiku.

Kimani Ichungwa is defending his seat on UDA which he used in the last election. Stephen Kigathi and Owen Ndung'u on the other hand are both in DCP of Rigathi Gachagua.

In 2022, Kigathi was running on KANU while Owen was a member of Jubilee Party. However, Kigathi later stepped down in favour of Owen because KANU and Jubilee were affiliate parties under Azimio One Kenya Coalition.

As is stands with 14 months to election, Kimani Ichung'wah has better chance of winning the race. This is if both Owen and Kigathi vie on Opposition affiliated parties and the incumbent run on UDA.

Owen and Kigathi will definitely divide opposition votes and Ichungwa will consolidate the voters aligned with the government.

Currently Mt Kenya is split into two with one side in the government and the other in the opposition.

The impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua as the deputy president created the split as some people aligned with him while others remained in the government.

This is why the the region is presumably divided ahead of the upcoming election.
