The victim, identified as Steve Godia, has been receiving treatment since the shocking incident that reportedly occurred on the eve of Valentine’s Day. According to family members, Godia suffered severe burns covering approximately 21 percent of his body after the suspected assault.
The burns reportedly affected sensitive areas including his face, neck, ears, eyes, and part of his back, leaving him in a painful and traumatic condition.
CCTV footage from the apartment building where the couple lived has since emerged, capturing the moments immediately after the alleged attack. The video reportedly shows the suspect leaving the residence shortly after a scream was heard inside the building.
Neighbours who heard the scream were alerted and began opening their doors to investigate the disturbance. One neighbour is seen stepping out cautiously before appearing suspicious of the situation and retreating back into her house.
The suspect was reportedly dressed in black and was captured on camera exiting the apartment building at exactly 9:48 pm. According to the footage, she hurried away from the scene moments after the incident.
Speaking about the incident, Godia’s sister, Brendah Godia, described the ordeal as deeply traumatic for the family. She explained that after allegedly pouring the hot water on her brother, the suspect also stole from him before fleeing.
The CCTV video reportedly shows the woman walking downstairs after leaving the apartment. In one segment of the footage shared by the family, she is said to be carrying a knife as she exits the building.
Moments later, Godia is seen stepping outside shirtless and visibly distressed, with his injuries clearly noticeable. The footage shows him appearing confused and in pain as he tries to comprehend what had happened.
Concerned neighbours quickly gathered around him after seeing the extent of his injuries. Some of them were seen peering into the apartment to understand what had taken place inside the house.
Despite his condition, Godia attempted to follow the suspect shortly after leaving the apartment. However, by that time she had already disappeared from the building.
According to his sister, the family is now focused primarily on ensuring that he receives the medical care needed for recovery.
“CCTV footage shows her opening the door and walking downstairs with a knife. The footage also shows my brother coming downstairs in a confused and distressed state because of the pain and shock,” Brendah explained.
She added that the incident has had a devastating emotional impact on the family, describing the situation as one of the most difficult experiences they have faced.
Authorities are yet to announce whether the suspect has been arrested, but the family hopes the CCTV footage will help investigators track her down.
Meanwhile, Godia remains in hospital as doctors continue to treat his burns while the family appeals for justice following the shocking attack.
